On Monday Karen and I made a quick (only two hours worth of shopping!) trip to Beijing. We were in search of Christmas presents and I needed to stock up on purses to bring back to the US! While out and about, we discovered this neat little shop on a side street that sold little boxes. What made these boxes so interesting is that they are made using pieces of vases that were broken and thrown away during the Cultural Revolution (1966 - 1976). During this time period, it was illegal to keep the antique porcelain at home. I love little treasures with a piece of history attached to them!
